A class discovery app that lets dancers pick classes by who they trust, not just by search.

01The idea

Dancers do not find classes the way search engines assume. They go where the people they trust are going. DancerBase is a class discovery app built around that: you pick classes by who you trust, not just by search. I own it end to end, across product, design, and the people I am building it for.

Dance is where I come from: competing and choreographing in hip-hop and Bollywood circuits, placing 5th nationally at World of Dance. The community that shaped me is the community this app serves. More on that side of my life is on the Dance page.

02The cold-start problem

A marketplace with no classes listed is useless to its first dancer, so I launched supply-side first: I recruited 10 Bay Area studios to list classes before building the user-facing experience.

Then I designed for both halves of the audience: connected users get friend-attended recommendations, and newcomers get trending and most-popular classes, so the app is useful whether or not you already know anyone.

03How I built it

I ran A/B tests on UI options in Figma and iterated with user testing, and I owned the product from schemas through development.
